West Amesbury Branch
The West Amesbury Branch of the Western Division passed through two towns. They were Newton, New Hampshire and Merrimac, Massachusetts. Only three train stops were located along this short line in October of 1908, as can be seen on this section of timetable.
This branch line got its start as the West Amesbury Branch Railroad. Construction of the route, which featured a turntable at each end of the line, was completed in 1873. As soon as the WAB opened it was leased by the Boston & Maine Railroad, the company which had funded its development and provided the track used to build the line. The full length of this branch from Newton Junction, NH to Merrimac, MA was abandoned in 1972.
